LOCATION: Cutler and Gross Spitalfields, 55 Brushfield Street, London E1 6AA
TERM: Permanent, Full Time
WORKING HOURS: 5 days out of 7days across Monday to Sunday, 9.30am - 6pm
A total of 37.5 hours per week.
The Role:
Cutler and Gross are seeking an enthusiastic trainee Dispensing Opticians to be an integral part of one of our growing London teams. Cutler and Gross is a next-generation independent optician and eyewear manufacturing business. Founded in 1969 by Graham Cutler and Tony Gross, the brand is known for its authoritative, influential frame designs and is well respected by customers and those inside the industry.
Key Responsibilities:
To be successful in this role, you will already be studying dispensing optics, be a passionate and driven professional, eager to work with eyewear of the highest quality with a focus on delivering a superb customer experience.
Description of Duties:
- Supply, fit and adjust glasses to a high standard with imagination and flare
- To use the various pieces of equipment to take frame and facial measurements to ensure correct fit and positioning
- To record the results of each customer, dispense on the customer management system and transmit electronically from the system all lens requirements to the supplier
- To interpret the prescription and to develop a dispense plan, making recommendations to clients based on their visual needs and lifestyle
- To consistently deliver high-quality dispensing and respond to feedback in a positive and constructive way
- To ensure customers are delighted with their glasses and go the extra mile to deliver an excellent customer experience
- Proactively solve problems and learn from mistakes to promote learning and negate reoccurrences
- Be pro-active in the running of the practice by ensuring the practice is operating to its full potential and looking forward to growing the business
- To stay up to date with frame materials and methods of frame manufacturing
- To have an awareness of the high-end optical market
- Remain up to date with GOC rules and new optical developments
- Follow all PPE guidelines the workplace for clients and staff
- Give advice to clients on lens type, frames and styling
- Advise clients when adjustments or repairs to spectacles are needed
- Select, manage and order a range of optical products
- Where required, order lenses from prescription houses
- Use the frame tracer to support the ordering of lenses, and fit lenses to frames in store (training will be provided)
- Check lenses on delivery to ensure that they meet the required specifications
- Arrange and maintain shop display with the team in line with visual merchandising guidelines
- Any additional administrative tasks as required

- To be effective at designing individual eyewear plans for each customer, including generating eye examinations appointments
- Maximising the sale across sunglasses, vocational lenses and sports lenses
- Deliver exceptional customer service at concierge level and always strive to improve
- Identify local trends and feedback to your line manager
- To willingly embrace our new systems, understand them, and use the statistics to produce local strategies for increasing business
- Adhere to the latest PPE guidance and compliance for your team and customers
- To work within reasonable timescales
- Updating and using relevant knowledge, keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to your job
- Establishing and Maintaining Interpersonal Relationships with work colleagues and customers
- Ability to share information clearly and to train other team members
Skills Required:
- At least 1 years’ pre-graduate experience working as Dispensing Optician
- Good IT literacy - Knowledge of Microsoft Office – Word, Excel and Outlook and aptitude to learn new software
- Have a proven track record in achieving sales targets and building customer relationships
- A flexible and ‘can do’ working style with a willingness to learn, improve and adapt
- An appreciation for fashion and luxury
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work as part of a team, and on own initiative
- You will need empathy and creativity alongside your theoretical knowledge
- The ability to multi-task and prioritise own workload
- Have exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
- Be immaculately presented and represent the company ethos
