Job Title:           Deputy Headteacher  

Location:           Hazel Cottage School, Fazakerley, Liverpool

Salary:               Up to £55,000 per annum dependent on experience

Hours:               37.5 hours per week; Monday - Friday 

Contract:           Permanent, Term Time Only 

Are you a Deputy Headteacher committed to improving the lives of pupils and young people?  We are looking for an experienced Deputy Headteacher to join our brand-new team at Hazel Cottage. 

Hazel Cottage would welcome applicants with senior leadership experience, ideally 2 years + Assistant Headteacher experience or those already working in Deputy Headshp. 

About our school: 

Hazel Cottage is a new school meeting the needs of autistic pupils aged 4 – 11 years who may have additional needs. Hazel Cottage is proposed to be a 35 place school. 

We are situated in Fazakerley, Liverpool. Our school is a Grade 2 Listed building which has been refurbished and re-designed to the highest standard to meet the needs of our wonderful pupils. At Hazel Cottage everything we do is centred around the individual needs of each pupil attending our school, with the aim that every learner is able to fulfil their individual potential and thrive.  Alongside a broad, exciting and memorable curriculum, we focus on developing core life skills such as communication and social interaction, sensory processing and emotional regulation.  We work towards every pupil being as independent as possible when they move on to the next stage of their education.

Job Purpose

To provide a high-quality education service for our students in accordance with Company policies, procedures and practices and the standards set by the Regulatory Body. To work with the Head Teacher, leadership team and other stakeholders to secure high standards throughout the school.

Key Task Areas and Responsibilities

• To comply with good safeguarding procedures and principles as detailed by the local safeguarding board
• To participate in the process of assessment of referrals
• To act as overall curriculum coordinator and manager across the school
• To act as the lead teacher for the positive support of behaviour that may challenge
• To work as a key member of the multi-disciplinary team which encompasses education, residential care and the clinical team
• To monitor progress and targets to ensure that each individual student can achieve planned outcomes

Essential criteria

• Relevant experience of teaching pupils and young people with Autistic spectrum condition and/or challenging behaviours
• Relevant experience of teaching pupils and young people with complex needs
• Experience of managing staff
• Managing budgets effectively and ensuring cost efficiency
• Degree and QTS

Desirable criteria 

• To hold the National Award in Special Needs Coordination or a commitment to this award on taking up the post. Note: From 2024, this award will be replaced by National Professional Qualification for SENCOs
