Job Title:         Assistant Headteacher

Location:         Manor House School, Horsham

Salary:             £43,251 to £49,019 per annum

Hours:             40 hours per week; Monday to Friday

Contract:         Permanent Term Time only

An opportunity has arisen to join our school and leadership team and be part of this forward thinking and rapidly developing Independent SEMH School in West Sussex. This is result of internal promotion and the rapidly expanding nature of the school which has had significant investment in staff, buildings and external facilities over the last 18 months.

Manor House School is an all through specialist SEMH school focusing on developing individuals so that when they leave the school, they can be successful in whatever they choose to pursue and are ready for their next steps into employment, further education or training.

Our school is part of a wider network of specialist independent schools under the Outcomes First umbrella. Manor House School is set in the beautiful West Sussex countryside and the curriculum makes use of as many off site trips as possible, building cultural capital and engaging students in employability and life skills opportunities.

Overall Responsibilities

  • To lead and deliver the school’s development plan and priorities alongside the head of school and other assistant Head.
  • To contribute to strategies and structures to ensure the wellbeing of pupils in the school relating to therapy, welfare advice, guidance and support.
  • To lead the Teaching Assistants, Instructors and teachers to ensure that close links with parents / carers are developed and built on, forming a supportive school and close links with the home.
  • To develop, monitor and evaluate the curriculum so that it is sequenced, progressive and meets the needs of the students
  • To lead and develop the work of the Teaching Assistants, Instructors and teachers ensuring they serve the needs of the pupils and maintain a strong flow of information to key members of the school team.
  • To monitor the quality of staff/students work and the effectiveness of teaching in an SEMH setting.
  • To work closely with the Admissions Department to develop a thoughtful programme that supports the transition of pupils into Manor House School
  • To ensure timetables, rooming, staffing and other logistical considerations are arranged carefully to ensure smooth delivery of education
  • To lead on Student Voice in the School informing policy and practice so that students feel valued and trusted.
  • To report on matters of safeguarding, pastoral care and welfare. To respond to parental concerns, complaints and enquiries on all matters of pastoral welfare, behaviour and academic progress.
  • To report on and ensure regulatory compliance and inspection readiness in this area of the school.
  • To be responsible for discipline and to handle disciplinary issues which have gone beyond the remit of the teachers and instructors.
  • To oversee all pupils on individual support, pastoral or health care plans. Leadership Responsibilities
  • To be a member of the Senior Leadership Team and to assist in the various issues and responsibilities arising from that.
  • To support the Head of School and Executive Head as necessary or required.
  • To be trained in safer recruitment and as a DSL.
  • Responsibility for the induction of the teachers /TAs/Instructors
  • To assist with the recruitment of teaching and other staff to the school
  • To provide guidance for individual staff, and to assist with staff induction, appraisal,
