Job Title:         Farm worker Term time only

Location:         Wessex Lodge School, Somerset 

Salary:             £19,000 - £23,000 per annum

Hours:             37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (hours to be discussed)

Contract:         Permanent, Term Time Only

Must be UK based.

The role will include basic farm maintenance as well as animal welfare. The role is not student based and is strictly animal and maintenance based. We are happy to consider day release for students studying a relevant qualification.

About the role 

As the schools Farm Worker, you will usually work with either animal production, dairy or crop production, although it is possible that you will work with all three. Livestock on farms tends to be pigs, cows or sheep, while crops can cover cereals, rapeseed oil,vegetables and salad. Your role will oversee the day-to-day care of animals and crops within the farm.

Essential qualifications and skills:

  • Previous hands-on farming experience and technical knowledge.
  • G.C.S.E Maths, English Minimum
  • ICT Literate
  • Skilled in conflict resolution / counselling
  • Ability to drive and have the use of a vehicle
  • Understanding and knowledge of approaches to a variety of positive behaviour management.

About us

Wessex Lodge School comprises of two main sites: Wessex Lodge School, the main school where classroom-based activities take place, the second site being Newmead Farm, located in Maiden Bradley and allows students the opportunity to explore subject paths which would otherwise not be available to them.

We have grown to support 40 students, aged 8 - 18 years old. Each student has individual needs based on developmental challenges, Social and Emotional Mental Health difficulties or Autism. We support them using individual plans and the THRIVE approach. Wessex Lodge offers all students an individualised education to improve life outcomes. 

The established staff team come from a variety of previous occupations and have individual skills, which can be utilised, within this school. So, if you have an interest and/or qualifications in animal care, horticulture, construction, outdoor education, forestry or any other specific trade or hobby, we would love to hear from you!
