The service you will work in….

Hestia is the largest provider of support to potential victims of trafficking in the UK. We are a dynamic service celebrating innovation and high engagement from service users. Outreach Advocates provide a high-quality emotional and practical frontline support to individuals who may have experienced trafficking and modern slavery, including sexual and criminal exploitation, domestic servitude, and other forms of exploitation.

The area you will work in….

As a Relief Worker at Hestia, you will play a crucial role in our Modern Slavery Response Service. Your contributions will directly influence the lives of our service users, guiding them towards a path of empowerment and independence.

A day will never look the same and some of the things you can expect to do/be responsible for are:

  • Provide pro-active service to clients who have received a positive reasonable grounds decision on their trafficking case via the National Referral Mechanism
  • Advocate on behalf of clients to ensure access to rights and help them navigate through of National Referral Mechanism process
  • Support a range of clients both within outreach service and safe house accommodation
  • Participate in referral line rota and accept new client referrals between hours 9am-10pm
  • Carry out initial assessments with new clients and deliver initial subsistence payments in the community
  • Respond to emergency needs of clients including but not limited to; subsistence payments, homelessness, medical needs, appointment cover, safe house maintenance
  • Participate in rota system between the hours of 9am-10pm including evenings, weekends and bank holidays
  • Working in an outreach capacity and in safe house accommodation
  • Identify and assess client risks and put in place safeguarding measures
  • Professionally deal with urgent requests and unpredicted issues
  • Have a strong knowledge of public and private sector services available to clients with both no recourse/recourse to public funds, including but not limited to housing, welfare and benefits, education and employment, physical and mental health support.
  • Ability to signpost once appropriate service identified
  • Report incidents in keeping with incident management procedures
  • Maintain records on case management system

  • Experience of working with adults with substance misuse issues and ill mental health
  • Demonstrate awareness of safe practice when lone working
  • Ability to remain calm and support service users effectively in crisis.
  • Demonstrable ability to provide information about rights, offer impartial advice and effectively advocate on behalf of clients
  • Ability to work with databases and keep accurate electronic records of support work 
  • Ability to record and manage financial transactions
  • Knowledge and understanding of the criminal justice system, immigration law, safeguarding adults and children and legal responsibilities
  • Knowledge and experience of providing a coordinated service with statutory and voluntary services available for the client group.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding issues and ability to address them appropriately
