Intervention Worker Out of Hours in Wandsworth

Hestia Housing Support is looking for an Intervention Worker Out of Hours in Wandsworth

Job description

We are Hestia. We make a difference.

At Hestia, we are guided by our core values and are dedicated to fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive organisation. We provide a range of services, including Domestic Abuse support, Modern Slavery assistance, Mental Health & Complex Needs care, and Criminal Justice. Our mission is to empower individuals to rebuild their lives and achieve independence.

The service you will work in….

Approved Premises (AP) work with the highest-risk offenders and provide a vital element in public protection arrangements. AP offer a ‘stepping stone' from prison to more mainstream community life with a level of contact, support and supervision that does not exist anywhere else in the probation service. Residents are seen on a daily basis and staff become involved in the resident's life to a very high degree: giving advice and offering support whilst exercising control and supervision, all the time liaising with the rest of the probation service and a wide range of agencies. This intense level of contact is what enables AP staff to monitor residents' well-being, to tailor support and to be aware of their actions and changes in their behaviour in a way that no other intervention can.

The role of AP staff is to encourage and facilitate residents to do all that they can for themselves, rather than to do the work for them. AP staff are not employed to work for residents, but to empower and enable them to do things for themselves. AP staff do not organise most residents' lives or time for them. Although some do require help in this aspect of their lives residents have freedom, including the freedom to make mistakes, even if there are negative consequences for them. Staff make residents aware of their responsibilities.

A day in this role looks like….

As a Intervention Worker - Out of Hours at Hestia, you will play a crucial role in our Criminal Justice. Your contributions will directly influence the lives of our service users, guiding them towards a path of empowerment and independence.

A day will never look the same and some of the things you can expect to do/be responsible for are:

  • Modelling pro-social behaviour and attitudes, helping to create and maintain a positive culture of respect in all work inside and outside of the service with both clients and colleagues
  • Actively engaging with clients and providing opportunities to do so including preparation of supper and breakfast
  • Contributing to delivery of the sentence plan in conjunction with colleagues in probation, the police and other external agencies
  • Providing admin and other support to colleagues, particularly in the preparation, facilitation and evaluation of purposeful activities
  • Following protocols, encouraging compliance and taking enforcement action as necessary, in particular around drug and alcohol testing requirements and curfews
  • Ensuring that colleagues, multi-agency partners and management are informed and updated as necessary
  • Actively monitoring and maintaining the health, safety, security, cleanliness and hygiene of the Approved Premises and the well-being of its occupants utilising information sharing, CCTV, direct observation, inspection, personal contact and other methods, as appropriate

Why Hestia?
