Overview

To be a key team member of the Cyber actuarial team providing expert analytical support to brokers and clients working across a wide range of multinational and Lloyd’s carriers. The successful candidate should be comfortable working across a number of different tasks e.g. Pricing, model building, profitability study, dealing with large data sets, as well as making reasonable progress through the actuarial exams. Candidate expected to lead client engagements and support work on larger accounts.

 

The role is aimed at recently qualified actuaries with a keenness to learn a fast-growing line of business.

 

The Gallagher Re Cyber Analytics team currently offers a range of services including, but not limited to:

  • Exposure and experience based pricing; proportional and non-proportional reinsurance
  • Dynamic Financial Analysis (DFA) modelling; stochastic modelling to investigate impact of reinsurance structures P&L, Balance Sheet and Capital Requirements.
  • Optimisation; capital efficiency and return from using reinsurance structures for both prospective and retrospective liabilities.
  • Benchmarking; compilation, analysis and presentation of product and sector benchmarking.
  • Research and development; within Cyber and development of tools allowing continuous pricing and monitoring of cyber exposures and data management.

How you'll make an impact

  • Lead client engagement and analytics projects for small and mid-size accounts.
  • To build effective working relationships within the team, other internal departments and clients.
  • To act as a point of contact within the department for ownership of processes.
  • Develop forward thinking research into emerging risks.
  • To ensure effective and structured verbal and written communication, with the ability to present information in a clear manner and contribute to meetings as required.
  • To demonstrate a clear understanding of the Actuarial department and the wider business.
  • To be proactive in seeking opportunities to develop own experience and technical skills wherever possible.
  • To be effective managing own workload, demonstrating effective prioritisation of tasks and providing regular progress updates against project plan.
  • To develop and automate new and existing modelling processes
  • Contribute to RFPs for reinsurance strategies placements
  • Lead in strategic reviews of both the inwards underwriting and outwards reinsurance strategies for London Market clients

About You

  • Strong analytical skills, ability to apply advanced mathematical / actuarial concepts and techniques to a dynamic environment.
  • Functional programming skills – R or Python.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to deal with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Sound oral and written communication skills.
  • A 'can do' attitude and the ability to work across different teams in a transversal manner.
  • Personable, enthusiastic, ability to summarise and explain key drivers of complex situations in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities within the Gallagher Re Analytics team. Forward planning (ability to anticipate future outcomes).
  • Experience of working within an actuarial team within a commercial general insurance company / Lloyd’s Managing Agent is preferable but not essential. 
  • University degree required in numerate/quantitative discipline at 2:1 or above, Financial Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Statistics, Quantitative Risk Management, MORSE.
  • Making good progress towards IFoA qualification or looking to start with a willingness to complete the full qualification.
  • Excellent IT skills, in particular, MS Excel. Evident proficiency in R and/or Python
  • Eligible to work in the UK
