Infrastructure Architect

Location: Farnborough, with flexibility to work from home dependent on business demands

The Role:

The Infrastructure Architect is required to design, develop, and implement a secure and efficient IT infrastructure that meets our client's current and future needs. This includes developing and deploying hardware and software solutions that enable the service to function efficiently and securely, while also providing scalability and flexibility for future growth.

The Infrastructure Architect is responsible for creating and maintaining a secure, reliable, and cost-effective IT infrastructure that supports the client's business objectives. You will also be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the IT infrastructure, ensuring security, performance, and compliance with contract commitments and organizational standards. You will evaluate existing systems, work with vendors to select hardware and software, and ensure that systems are secure and efficient. This position requires strong technical knowledge and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

What will I be doing?

  • Design and develop enhancements to, and replacement for existing IT infrastructure
  • Analyse current IT infrastructure and create proposals for improvement
  • Develop and implement IT infrastructure policies and procedures
  • Develop and implement IT infrastructure security policies and procedures
  • Conduct research and recommend new technologies and systems
  • Work with Implementation teams to make sure IT architecture is properly implemented
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to project teams

  • Be able to design and implement technical solutions for large-scale infrastructure projects
  • Be able to develop deployment strategies and implementation plans for large-scale projects
  • Be able to develop and implement operational processes for managing and maintaining infrastructure components
  • The ability to lead and mentor technical teams to ensure successful project delivery
  • Create and maintain technical documentation
  • Expert-level knowledge of systems and IT engineering principles
  • Significant experience planning and delivering complex IT projects
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders
  • Aptitude for developing innovative solutions to infrastructure challenges

What technologies will I be involved with?

  • On-premise compute, storage and networking, covering a wide range of hardware manufacturers. 
    • Compute - Dell PowerEdge, IBM System X
    • Storage – XIO, NexSAN, Dell PowerStore
    • Network – Cisco, Palo Alto, Dell Connectix switches. F5 Web Application Firewalls
  • VMWare virtualisation (vSphere, vCentre and ESXi), running 6.5 and up.
  • Storage technologies including SAN and HSM.
  • Operating Systems
    • Various Windows Server technology
    • Various Linux server technologies, including SUSE and Red Hat.
  • Databases including Oracle and MS SQL.

Clearance Requirements: The successful applicant will be required to hold and maintain UK Security Clearance
