Yes, both technology and education have advanced as individual sectors, and technology has played a huge part in education progress. But is this progress only limited to smart classrooms and virtual learning, or is there more? 

Could the Covid-19 pandemic lead to technology playing a more significant part in the curriculum? Although, this highly depends on how e-learning fares in the future, a certain degree of change is expected.  Today, we’re going to look at the ever-changing role of technology in education and how it has catered to its growth and development. 

 

1. STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)

STEM or STEAM Education is defined as the combination of the five disciplines Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, to form a curriculum. As is apparent, this approach has its basis in problem-solving and the real-world application of those solutions. 

STEM curriculums are created with practical problems that a student may face later and on how to solve them. The foundation of STEM education is to help students develop the habit of thinking for themselves. By merging effective learning with theoretical and field parts of these subjects, the aim is to condition students to handle challenges. 

As part of a STEM syllabus, students have the opportunity to study deeper parts of technology such as coding, robotics, 3D printing, web design, etc. STEM also employs programs to teach students how to have healthy interpersonal relationships with several team-building exercises.

 

2. Flexible Learning Space

With the availability of an internet connection in almost every household, education has become more and more accessible over time. Now students living in marginalized areas have easy access to learning material and online courses. This eliminates the difficulty of looking for a suitable mode of transportation. Now learning is possible wherever you go. Virtual Learning has been essentially helpful for students to go back to studying post-lockdown. 

While a conventional learning space gives a sense of discipline, a personal learning space with room for improvement gives people the freedom to learn at their own pace. This is helpful for not just school and students, but it provides working adults the chance to go back to education as per their wish. 3. New Additions to Curriculum

With the boom of IT domains like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cloud Computing, Augmented Reality (AR), the introduction of these subjects in the curriculum is not far into the future. While they are perceived to be similar technologies, a clearer bifurcation would be a good addition to the general school curriculum. 

The current education system has been known to leave students with too many options to choose from. This leads to baffled students who can’t narrow down their interest areas and have to stick with umbrella terms for various subjects like Social Science, Science, Mathematics, etc. But if specific subsets of such subjects are taught, it can help them develop a more practical understanding of prospective career options. 

For example, this will be helpful for students who want their main area of study to be data science. Students interested in tech will be able to test their skills and have a deeper understanding of its branches from an early age. It will give them a chance to have a more profound understanding of their desired subject and decide whether they would like to pursue it or not.
